Today I recieved a generous offer, that is so hilariously comical that I just have to post it here.
Recently, propirate.com expired and went into a
domain name auction. We acquired it and, since you
own the .net version of this domain name, we
wanted to provide you with the opportunity to own the
preferred .com version. Our company specializes in recovering preferred expiring
domains and either selling them to individuals such as
yourself or building out our own web presence on those
valuable domains.
Now the next part totally cracked me up, if you know the movie Ghost World, think of the scene where Enid has this Job selling goodies at a Cinema. Think of that scene, and read the following justifications:
propirate.com is a pretty darn good domain name and,
the truth is, the .COM is a far stronger version of the
name than then .NET is.* .Com is the strongest brand on the internet.
When people think of a website, they intuitively
think “.com”. Odds are people trying to get to
your website are inadvertently going to propirate.com
because they assume that’s where they can find you.* .Com conveys Professionalism that .net & .org
cannot match.
Now remember the following quote from the movie Ghost World:
Enid: Medium? … Why Sir, do you not know that for a mere 25c more, you could purchase a large beverage. And you know, I am only telling you this because we are such good friends. Medium is really only for suckers who dont know the concept of value.
The reference is so blatantly obvious, and I like it so much, that I am almost tempted to go for the offer. But I am a hopeless cynic, therefore I wrote and sent the following reply:
